Meeting Report

Following its now-familiar brisk 5-minute presentation format, the 7th Accommodation Club meeting fielded sessions covering fundamental knowledge relating to the accommodation system, cause of presbyopia, methods and devices for restoring accommodation, strategies for overcoming LEC proliferation and controlling lens growth.

The meeting was attended by 140 scientists, developers and clinicians including 22 students, who engaged in energetic debates around 34 papers delivered relating to the mechanisms of accommodation, cause of presbyopia as well as technology for restoring accommodation.  Research into the control of lens epithelial growth brought new insight into what many sees as the 'ultimate leveller' in the quest to restore accommodation. Of great interest was a show-casing of developments in instrumentation for the imaging of the anterior segment and the accommodation process.
